I have another ’68 question, for which an answer probably exists (if so please point me in the right direction).
On the 8/22/68 file it seems odd that the Dark Star isn’t tracked before the Stephen and I am curious if this is really the right order. Bill Graham introduces the band before DS, they end it with Jerry commenting about sound issues on stage. The beginning of Stephen is clipped, so it isn’t possible to tell how the song actually starts out.

Vapors? What the heck? Here we're in a nice long thread about the E72 box set and you're butting in about 8/22/68? :)

The cotsman file you linked to is the best & most complete (actually, the only complete) one on the Archive.
That said, it is clearly pieced together from a couple different sources - and as most of the show is in mono & has a fair amount of tape noise and a couple splices, that indicates it's some distance away from the original recording. And as you may know from tape-trading days, parts of shows often got shuffled around!

According to deadlists, Stephen>Eleven>Death was the first set. (Deadbase says there was a Lovelight to close the set, which is quite possible, considering our chopped-up tape.)
Bill Graham often introduced both sets at Fillmore shows, so Dark Star may well start the second set, as listed. (I can't make out what Garcia says at the end.)

The set order as it stands isn't implausible, since there are also other shows from the period where they start Stephen cold, or do a Dark Star>Cryptical suite.
I always assumed that was the correct place (on the other Archive copy, the Cryptical count-in starts right after Garcia says "thank you", but that was an editing trick).
But with our source cutting right after Death & Dark Star, it's really impossible to establish an order just from the tape.
So it's quite possible Dark Star was moved out of order - possibly by the same culprit who copied this show in mono & left out the Lovelight!
We can't really conclude anything until a better source turns could email Dave Lemieux & ask about the vault reel.

I will try an email to DL, why not? My post was a bit spur of the moment early this morning as I checked the board before heading in to work – thanks for your reply!
(At the end of Dark Star Jerry says something like “… turn off the strobe light for a while, it makes clicks on the stage.”)

As far as the Europe ‘72 announcement under discussion, I think it is pretty darn cool, and hopefully a sign of more good things to come. I am chipping in on a cooperative purchase and look forward to reading whatever material comes with it, but don’t need all the extras myself.
